Perfectly English: A modern, comfortable, and elegant family home in Dorset countryside, England.

Swirls of creams and whites anchored by heritage colors from Farrow and Ball complement the elegant architecture of antique beams and original stone walls dating back to the 1200's.  The colors bring a sense of tranquility to this Dorset Manor House designed by Emma Sims of Sims Hilditch, a boutique interior design practice based near Bath, England, who's philosophy is Design to Enrich Our Everyday Life.

The design celebrates the traditional interior, while giving this family home modern, open, light-filled living areas, and a contemporary glazed garden room and kitchen.  This allows the family to embrace open-plan living, a home where they choose to spend time with friends and family more so than ever before.

I love the perfectly English spaces with deep window sills, portieres, tufted ottomans, a mud room/laundry room with shelf space enough for a dozen Hunter boots, and the beautiful wallpaper by GP & J Baker and Sandberg.  It's a home designed to LIVE in!  Inspired by the perfect simple moments that make our homes havens - from catching up over coffee in a cozy kitchen to cuddling up on the sofa...  Simple, Elegant and Embracing, and Perfectly English!   Enjoy!

I hope it's lovely where you are...

  1. Oh Rie,
Thank you for this beautiful home post, I have a fondness for English living and my last home was influanced by its designs. I them moved to a smaller cottage style home of investment and played out a gathered and collected French language of flea market style.
This home would be so wonderful to walk about, feeling the, space and everything so traditionally placed. It's exterior takes my breath away, loving it's grey pallet of stone.

Thank you for this beautiful share, and thank you for taking the time to visit my place sharing your thoughts with me.

    Xx

    1. Dore, Let me begin with you write so beautifully, and I just adore your style and blog posts; they are light as air and lovely. I too have a fondness for French or English style, but especially for a cottage, add in a pretty English garden and it would be hard for me to ever leave. Thank you for your encouraging comments. xx Rié
