Dodie Thayer Exclusive Iconic Lettuce Ware Collection For Tory Burch

Entertaining is an art form; legendary hostesses C.Z. Guest and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis were influential hostesses of their time inspiring many American housewives to follow their lead then and now.  Their Classic American style is still in demand today; including their collections of lettuce and cabbage ware by ceramist Dodie Thayer.  Each piece was originally made by hand in Ms. Thayer's garage on a second-hand kiln in Palm Beach, and was produced from the 1960s to the 1980s.  When these pieces come up at auction today they are bought within minutes.

Tory Burch has launched her exclusive Lettuce ware collection created in collaboration with Dodie Thayer capturing the ease of Palm Beach elegance of the 1960s.  Each piece is molded, hand-detailed and glazed a vibrant green, "Duncan Irish Green" to be exact and is still one of Dodie's and Tory's favorite colors.  A reissue of a signature style, the Tory Burch lettuce ware is made of ceramic stoneware, and is dishwasher and microwave safe, making super-chic entertaining a breeze.

  4. I have seen these types of pieces before, but had no idea the history behind them, or that no less than Jackie Kennedy helped to make them popular. The color is amazing, and even stacked they just look like a party waiting to happen!

    1. Yes, actually it is! Several years ago I read the book C.Z. Guest: American Style Icon by Susanna Salk and first saw her collection that I pictured above and was struck with how pretty they are. I began to "look" for this Dodi ware as I called it then, but when I did find a piece it was very expensive and not in my budget. So I am thrilled Tory has reissued them. Thank you for coming by, I hope you do so again. All the best, Rié
